MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A Virginia State Police trooper is facing multiple charges in Myrtle Beach after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at a Grand Strand resort.

Darren Hampton Roberts is accused of holding the woman against her will on a bed and assaulting her after an argument while they were at the Caribbean Resort and Villas at 3000 N. Ocean Blvd., according to information in a Myrtle Beach police report.

The Virginia State Police confirmed to News13 on Thursday that Roberts is a trooper assigned to the Wytheville Division Area 24 Office in Pulaski County, Virginia. He has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.

The agency said it was notified of his arrest on Monday by Myrtle Beach police.

Authorities have charged Hampton with kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual assault and first-degree domestic violence. He was booked into the J. Reuben Arrested on Tuesday and released on Wednesday after posting a $20,000 bond on Wednesday.
