UPDATE: 4:15 P.M. ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department has released new details after a car fire led to a brush fire on Monday afternoon.

Fire officials said just before 1 p.m. on March 18, crews were called to the 3500 block of Twelve O’Clock Knob Road for a car fire. Once on the scene, firefighters found the car fully engulfed in flames and a fire in the brush.

Currently, the fire has burned about 20 acres of land and is about 10% contained. Officials confirmed that houses and other structures are not in danger.

As crews continue to work, the community is asked to avoid the area. Currently, all north and southbound lanes on Twelve O’Clock Knob Road are closed.

The Virginia Department of Forestry is also on the scene and there are no reported injuries.



ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department is advising the community to avoid the area as crews work to contain a fire on Twelve O’Clock Knob Road.

Details remain limited; however, the fire department confirmed that a vehicle caught fire and began spreading to the woods.

As a result of the fire, smoke can be seen while driving on Interstate 581 and from the Salem area.

Currently, all north and south lanes are closed. Drivers traveling in this area are encouraged to find an alternative route.
