PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Dole Fresh Vegetables is recalling several items of Dole-branded and private labeled salad kits due to possible Listeria contamination, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, or FDA.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious infections in children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.
Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, according to the FDA.
Recalled salad items were distributed in the states of Virginia as well as AL, CA, CT, FL, GA, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NV, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, UT, WA and WI.
No other Dole products are part of these voluntary recalls.
