ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – After years of opposition and delays, a statement released by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, has approved the Mountain Valley Pipeline for full operations on June 11.
The Director of the Office of Energy Projects with the FERC, Terry Turpin, stated in a letter to Equitrans Midstream Corporation that the project is in full compliance and granted their request to open the pipeline for use in Virginia and West Virginia.
After reporting 50 anomalies in a quarterly report to federal regulators, on June 10, Natalie Cox, who is the Vice President, Communications and Corporate Affairs with Equitrans confirmed to WFXR News that MVP is now in full compliance with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Additionally, they satisfied the restoration standard in Environmental Condition No. 10 for tracking waterborne diseases.
Federal regulators agreed with Equitrans assessment, stating previously found anomalies have been “adequately stabilized” and “that restoration and stabilization of the construction work area is proceeding satisfactorily.”
However, the decision did not come without last-minute opposition, with dozens of last-minute public comments hoping to stop it from going into service.
