Greene County Sheriff’s Office removes, relocates 81 dogs at puppy mill found with poor conditions

GREENE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office removed and relocated 81 dogs following an investigation into a reported puppy mill that had animals that were not being properly cared for.

According to a spokesperson for the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was obtained following the report of issues with the treatment and condition of the animals at a puppy mill.


On Monday, June 10, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division, Criminal Investigation Division, along with a licensed veterinarian, went to the location of the puppy mill in Free Union and executed the search warrant.

According to the spokesperson, the licensed veterinarian and animal control determined that the living conditions and overall well-being of the dogs, aged from adult to puppies, were poor.

There were 81 dogs, with some female dogs pregnant. According to the spokesperson, all dogs on site were removed and are currently placed with dog shelters or rescue organizations.

Charges are pending for the owners of the puppy mill.
