Audrey Cannon, Dominion Energy representative, told 8News on Friday that wet snow and heavy ice can weigh down power lines causing outages.
“Especially if it’s down on the ground, always assume that it’s energized and dangerous, it could be deadly,” Cannon said. “So, if you see a downed powerline, make sure that you stay at least 30 feet away. Make sure that your kids, and pets and neighbors stay away and give us a call right away.”
If you are experiencing outages, please report them to Dominion Energy here.

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative
Rappahannock Electric Cooperative is reporting 2,153 customer outages as of 2 p.m.
REC said they have restored power to more than 18,000 members.
“While some of those outages affect only a few residents, the repairs needed to restore each of the outages can sometimes take several hours. For instance, today crews will begin the lengthy process to replace over 30 broken poles, as well as making repairs to cross-arms, transformers, and fuses just to get power back on for a few member-owners at a time,” REC said in a release.
REC said as they continue making repairs some outages could display on the website as restored. If that the case, then members will need to report the outage again.
