ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation after a man’s body was discovered in Dunlap Creek on May 25.

On Friday, May 24, deputies were conducting night checks near Humpback Bridge when they noticed an unattended vehicle in the parking lot. Deputies checked the vehicle’s registration and learned the car was registered to Christopher Lee Williamson.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the registration also revealed Williamson allegedly had three outstanding warrants from Prince William County for Aggravated Sexual Battery.

With assistance from K-9 units and a drone from state police, authorities searched the area but were unsuccessful.

On Saturday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office dispatch center was notified that a body was found in the water on Dunlap Creek, south of Humpback Bridge. Several first responders and rescue personnel returned to the area and recovered the body.

The Sheriff’s Office says investigators were able to identify the victim as Christopher Lee Williamson.

This is an active investigation and investigators are waiting for results from the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
