FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Virginia State Police (VSP) said the pilot of a small plane was hurt after it crashed in the Fredericksburg area Thursday afternoon.
Troopers responded to the 14500 block of Spring Mill Rd. after they received word of the crash. VSP said the pilot of the single-engine Cessna tried to make an emergency landing in a field, hitting several trees as the plane came down.
The 79-year-old pilot, who is from Fredericksburg, had serious injuries, but troopers expected him to survive. A crew flew him to Fairfax Inova Hospital for treatment.
He was the only person on board, and no one who was on the ground was hurt.
VSP said the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were notified of the crash.
