RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — There were a surprising turn of events Saturday, May 11 at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) commencement ceremony, as a large group of graduating seniors and others conducted a walkout in the middle of the ceremony.

During Governor Glenn Youngkin’s speech at the VCU commencement a large group walked out of the ceremony.

According to 8News, about one minute into the Governor’s speech, students and family members made their way out of the ceremony in an organized manner.

The group of protesters, estimated to be near 100 students and family members, were seen marching in front of the VCU’S Stuart C. Siegel Center carrying signs and chanting in support of Pro-Palestinian rights.

VCU has not yet released a statement regarding the walkout at this time.
