PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Potential issues with Verizon customers on the Eastern Shore dialing into 9-1-1 are no longer, police said.

The intermittent issue with Verizon network equipment was causing some 9-1-1 callers to not be able to dial in to 9-1-1 using a cellular or landline phone during brief, intermittent periods of time. The Eastern Shore 9-1-1 Commission sent out a message about the issue on Sunday, and on Tuesday said 9-1-1 services had been restored and remained functional.

If unable to reach 911, callers can call the dispatch center directly at 757-387-9508.
