SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — Wednesday, the NCAA announced more than 240 host site selections for championship events at the Division I, II, and III levels — with Salem getting some bids.
The Stagg Bowl in 1993 was the first NCAA Championship Salem ever hosted and was fortunate enough to have it for 25 years. After going away for a few years and making a comeback last year, as part of a celebration of the 50th year of Division III, the Stagg Bowl is returning to it’s longtime home.
For the 27th time — fans across the Blue Ridge will have the chance in witnessing the excitement that revolve around a national collegiate championship. With the expansion of the Division III playoffs to 40 teams and a sixth round…the championship game is scheduled for January 2027 at Salem Stadium.
Not to mention, the Division III Women’s Basketball semifinals will also be in Salem. That event takes place in March 2028 at Cregger Center.
