ANNANDALE, Va. (DC News Now) — Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that injured a state trooper on I-495 in Virginia early Tuesday morning. The domino effect crash happened near Little River Turnpike. 

Police said at happened at around 3 a.m., when a state trooper was dispatched to I-495 because a sedan was stopped in one of the lanes.

As the trooper tried to get the driver to move over to the shoulder, a jeep crashed into a tractor-trailer. It spun around hitting the trooper’s patrol car, which hit the sedan the trooper was engaging with and ultimately hit the trooper.

The trooper had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The driver of the sedan who was inside the car when it happened also had minor injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.

The driver of the jeep that crashed into the tractor trailer was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Virginia has a “move over” law which requires drivers to move over to the next like when you see a vehicle that has their hazards on.

So, if you see flash blue, red, or amber lights or marked with flares, move over or slow down.

The names of the drivers arrested has not been released yet.
