DANVILLE, Va. (WNCN) — Officials have confirmed that a years-in-the-making full casino resort will open in southern Virginia — about an hour from Durham — by the end of the year.

Caesars Virginia is finishing construction on a $750 million casino resort in Danville, which borders North Carolina and is less than 80 miles from Raleigh and 57 miles from Durham.

Caesars and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians opened the Danville Casino, a temporary facility, in mid-May 2023.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians confirmed that the full casino — with 1,400 slot machines and 80+ live table games — is on track to open in December.

The Caesars website said they are now accepting reservations in the 320-room luxury hotel for April. The casino would be open in December, but an exact date has not been announced.

Nightly room rates on the Caesars website list weekend rates at $699 nightly and weekdays at $499 in April.

The casino and hotel are also on a hiring spree before the anticipated opening. On Saturday, more than 105 Danville jobs were listed on the Caesars website.

In the last few days, the December opening received more reinforcement with an announcement that Michelin-star chef Gordon Ramsay will open Ramsay’s Kitchen at Caesars Virginia by the end of 2024.

Ramsey’s Kitchen will be inside the casino next to the registration steps and will feature a modern ambiance, according to a news release. The restaurant will have more than 250 seating options, private dining, and an outdoor patio view of Danville’s historic Three Sisters smokestack.

The resort site will feature a Caesars entertainment venue and conference center seating up to 2,500 for concerts like those at other Caesars properties.

The casino will include Caesars Sportsbook and a World Series of Poker Room.
