PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — 2024 was predicted to be a busy hurricane season by the NOAA.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin is urging Virginians to prepare for this season in light of potential storms. Hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.

“As we head into hurricane season, Virginians from every area of the Commonwealth need to be prepared and I’m asking Virginians to have a plan, sign up for emergency alerts and know your evacuation route,” said Youngkin. “Now is the time to prepare your families and property, check your insurance coverage, and identify those trusted sources of information that can help keep you safe.”

In previous coverage, WAVY reported that National Hurricane Center discussed the large potential for flooding in Hampton Roads seeing as the region has a lot of water. In 2008, Hurricane Isabel hit the area and created major tidal flooding at almost eight feet.
