PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Virginia State Police (VSP) said charges are pending after two people, including an 11-year-old girl, died and several others were hurt in a crash on Interstate 66.
According to VSP, just before 2:30 p.m. on June 21, a disabled Hyundai Tucson was pulled over on the right shoulder on I-66 West, at mile marker 46. That’s when a man, driving a Isuzu truck went off the right side of the Interstate and slammed into the Hyundai.
Police said the impact of the crash sent the car into the wall and pushed it along the shoulder for about 400 feet.
The passengers of the Hyundai, 27-year-old Krystal Akers, of Dublin, and an 11-year-old girl were taken to the hospital, where they died.
Officials said the driver and a 3-month-old baby were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Their condition is unknown at this time.
According to VSP, the man driving the truck suffered minor injuries, and a passenger was seriously hurt.
The crash remains under investigation.
