NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Several Hampton Roads cities ranked for the hardest-working cities in the U.S., according to a new study.

WalletHub compared the U.S.’ 116 largest cities across 11 metrics. They broke up the factors into direct work factors, worth 80 points, and indirect work factors, worth 20 points.

Virginia Beach ranked at No. 4, Norfolk at No. 6 and Chesapeake ranked at No. 16. The No. 1 spot goes to Washington D.C.

The direct factors were: average workweek hours, employment rate, share of households where no adults work, share of workers leaving vacation time unused, share of engaged workers and idle youth (16-24.)

Indirect factors were: average commute time, share of workers with multiple jobs, annual volunteer hours per resident, share of residents who participate in local groups or organizations, average leisure time spent per day.
