VANCEBORO, N.C. (WNCT) — April is nationally recognized as the Month of the Military Child. It’s 30 days celebrating the children of service members both domestic and abroad and recognizing the unique challenges these kids face.
According to the U.S. Defense Department, there are more than 1.6 million children with parents in the military. West Craven Middle School student Christopher Whitfield is one of them. He has not seen his mom since June.
On Friday, Christopher’s mom, Army Sergeant Trinity Whitfield, worked with Craven County Schools to surprise Christopher on her return to the States.
“Being separated from their parents, I know it has to be hard because it’s hard for me being away from my baby,” Trinity said.
