A Windsor man pleaded guilty to multiple charges stemming from an armed robbery that left a Hampton police officer injured in 2017.
James Gregory appeared in court Wednesday and faced 16 charges, including robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and abduction.
Investigators said that on June 12, they were called to the Gamestop at Hampton Towne Center for a robbery.
When officers arrived, the suspects fled the scene. A short police pursuit ended in the AMC 24 movie theater’s parking lot nearby.
According to investigators, an officer was shot during the apprehension of one of the suspects.
Another officer returned fire, striking one of the suspects.
Many witnesses testified about what went down inside of the store.
An employee said that Gregory came into the business and brandished a gun.
He said that Gregory forced him to empty two cash registers and the store safe. He also said Gregory stole multiple Playstations.
Customers who were inside at the time said Gregory and another suspect made them lay on the floor.
The fiancée of one of those customers also testified.
She said the two were planning on going to the movies and were wasting some time before it started.
She had gone into a clothing store to shop and her fiancé went into Game Stop to buy some games for his brother, who would soon visit from out of the country.
When her fiancé did not come to get her from the store, she said she went by Game Stop but the door was locked.
A man opened the door and forced her inside at gunpoint. She said laid on the floor and was terrified to move.
Gregory pleaded guilty after hearing all the evidence presented by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
Attorney Anton Bell said that if Gregory would’ve been convicted on all charges by the jury, he would have faced a minimum of 120 years in jail.
Now, sentencing will be based on guidelines.
Gregory is expected to be back in court for that sentencing on June 15. He also faces a separate trial in connection to a Virginia Beach double murder.
