SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Suffolk’s registrar’s office has officially finished adding the provisional ballots, early voting ballots and mail in ballots for the city’s mayoral race.

With over 52,000 total votes counted, Mayor Michael Duman maintains his lead over Clinton Jenkins and David Bossleman.

Duman is currently 161 votes ahead of Jenkins, which is within the margin of recount.

During their campaigns, Duman focused on his experience, and political newcomer Bosselman focused on issues surrounding the city’s growth. Jenkins focused on tying himself to the Democratic party.

Jenkins made a statement following the update, claiming that he has yet to make a decision on a possible recount.

“I would like to thank and congratulate each Suffolk Mayor candidate for exercising their right to participate in the electoral process,” Jenkins said. “For me, it has been a wonderful experience. It is always fulfilling hen the opportunity presents to serve our constituents. Based on the closeness of the Mayor’s race, it is clear that an overwhelming number of Suffolk’s citizens want change, controlled growth and other improvements in Suffolk. I’d like to express my appreciation for the work that the Registers office performed during the election process. I hope my opponents the best in their future endeavors. Currently, I have not made a decision regarding a recount.”
