Green Run football star commits to Virginia Tech

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – If you Google the name Keylen Adams, you’ll understand pretty quickly how much of a talent he is to the Commonwealth. The statistics, accolades, and eye-test tell you NFL level talent, but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.

The Green Run standout had a college decision day Thursday, and outlets covering high school commits from around the country were tapped in, waiting to see what the rising senior does.

His decision?

Adams’ final five teams were pretty stacked – Alabama, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina and Pittsburgh – but in the end, he announced he would head to Blacksburg and play for Virginia Tech.

“The process was really stressful but it’s a good stress, not a lot of people get this opportunity,” Adams. “I’m in a blessed position right now but it’s definitely a weight off the shoulders.”

The four-star receiver had been low key about where he’ll land. To him, what mattered most is being outside practicing in the summertime, so that when the season rolls around, Green Run can get over the hump and win a state championship.

The Stallions lost in the state semifinals the last two seasons.

“I’m on track to break records but if I don’t get a state championship, I did it for no reason,” Adams said. “If we can make it there twice before we can make it again, we just gotta get past that game, that’s the only thing we gotta do.”

In the process, he hopes his college recruitment has helped his teammates get the same type of recognition.

“Coaches might come and watch me,” Adams said, “but it’s great because if everybody is doing their jobs, they might see another player score or do well and ask ‘who is that?’ and then start looking at them. It helps everybody out.”

Adams plans to graduate high school a semester early and enroll at Virginia Tech in January.
