BALTIMORE, Md. (NSU Athletics) – The Norfolk State women’s basketball team earned their 20th win of the season against Coppin State on Saturday defeating the Eagles, 64-51.
The Spartans (20-5, 9-1 MEAC) are on an eight game win-streak and are winning by an average of 29 points.
The Spartans have won their last four consecutive games against the Eagles (9-15, 6-4 MEAC) dating back to Jan. 21, 2023. They last defeated the Eagles on Jan. 2 of this year, 61-53, at Joseph Echols Hall.
Kierra Wheeler was the leading scorer for the Spartans finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor. She was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. The Spartans went 16-18 from the free-throw line in the game for 88.9 percent.
In the second best three-point shooting performance as a team this season, the Spartans knocked down six of their 13 three-pointers at 46.2 percent. Freshmen guards Da’Brya Clark and Anjanae Richardson knocked down four combined.
For the 18th time this season, the Spartans have collected 10 or more steals in a game. Two Spartans had multi-steal games: Niya Fields (5) and Diamond Johnson (5). Collecting 12 steals alowed the Spartans to convert 15 points off turnovers.
