PORTSMOUTH (WAVY) – Community leaders, politicans, actors, and hall of fame athletes all made time to celebrate one of the greatest athletes in Hampton Roads history on Wednesday night.
The City of Portsmouth threw out the red carpet, and threw NFL legend Roger Brown a birthday party to remember.
“This is a hell of a birthday celebration,” Brown told Bruce Rader live on WAVY News 10 at 6:00 pm. “I think I’ll have it every year.”
Brown, 82, is best remember as a six-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman, and part of what became known as the “Fearsome Foursome” with the Los Angelas Rams.
“(That was) perhaps the greatest defensive line in football history,” said Bruce Smith, who’s now a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
While his legacy lines the halls of his restaurant in Portsmouth, it also stretches all throughout Hampton Roads. “Everyone looks up to him,” said Smith.
