Chesapeake’s Grant Holloway wins silver in Olympic men’s 110m hurdles

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake’s Grant Holloway ended the men’s 110m hurdles with a silver medal Wednesday night.

The Grassfield High alum is raced in the final at 10:55 p.m. ET Wednesday. It’s Holloway’s first defeat of the year.

Holloway was behind Jamaica’s Hansle Parchment, who trailed Holloway in the semifinals Tuesday.

Holloway had a strong start, but by the last two hurdles, two runners from Jamaica gained speed, with Parchment overtaking Holloway near the end. However, Holloway leaned forward at the finish to secure the silver medal.

Holloway reached the final Tuesday night with the fastest time in his heat,13.13.

Family and friends held a watch party Wednesday night to cheer on Chesapeake’s own Grant Holloway as he goes for gold in the men’s 110m hurdles final.

The watch party happened at Friday Night Lightz at 1245 Cedar Road in Chesapeake.

This was Holloway’s Olympic debt, after he won eight national championships at Florida and a world championship in the fall of 2019.

Hampton native Tynita Butts-Townsend will also compete Wednesday night at 8:10 p.m. in the high jump. Butts-Townsend was a 7-time All-American at East Carolina University.
