(WGHP) – The Triad has been in a rainy weather pattern for most of May, but we’re hoping the weather cooperates for All-Star Race week in North Wilkesboro.
Here’s a look at the weather day-by-day in the ‘Boros.
Thursday: NASCAR All-Star Race Hauler Parade & Fan Fest
On Thursday at North Wilkesboro, Fan Fest in the Boros is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the NASCAR All-Star Hauler Parade around 6 p.m.
Of all the days this week, Thursday has the lowest rain chances in North Wilkesboro. While that’s good news, a stray shower or storm can’t be ruled out.
Skies are expected to be mostly sunny Thursday afternoon with temperatures reaching the upper 70s.
While we’ll see some sunshine, there’s still a 20% chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon and early evening. Bring an umbrella with you just in case a shower pops up!
Friday: NASCAR Cup Series Qualifying & All-Star Concerts
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Haulers Enter
- Temperatures will be in the upper 60s around 10 a.m. and will reach the mid-70s by 1 p.m. Skies will be partly-to-mostly cloudy. A stray shower can’t be completely ruled out by the chance for rain Friday morning is less than 10% in North Wilkesboro.
3 p.m. — NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Practice
- After a quiet and dry start to the day, scattered showers and thunderstorms return Friday afternoon with temperatures in the mid-70s.
4:35 p.m. — NASCAR Cup Series Practice
- Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible through the late afternoon and early evening. Temperatures reach the mid-70s before rain moves in.
5:40 p.m. — NASCAR Cup Series Qualifying (Open)
- Rain and storms chances continue to remain possible and will eventually increase by late Friday evening. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s.
6:20 p.m. — NASCAR All-Star Cup Series Qualifying & Pit Crew Challenge
- Temperatures will remain in the mid-70s with ongoing rain and storm chances.
7:45 p.m. — All-Star Friday Concerts Featuring Tim Dugger & Neal McCoy
- Rain and storm chances increase to the potential for widespread rainfall as well as the potential for occasional lightning. Temperatures will be in the upper 60s and low 70s.
Saturday: NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Wright Brand 250
8 a.m. — Ticket Office and Fan Zone Open
- Scattered showers continue into Saturday morning with temperatures in the mid-60s. The rain gear will definitely be important on Saturday.
10:35 a.m. — NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Qualifying Round
- We may be sounding like a broken record at this point but, yes, rain chances remain possible through mid-morning Saturday. Temperatures will reach the upper 60s with rain and storm chances around 80%.
1:30 p.m. — NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
- Scattered rain and storm chances remain likely into Saturday afternoon with temperatures in the low 70s.
Following the truck series race, the NASCAR All-Star Heat Race No. 1 and No. 2 are expected to take place through the early evening.
While lingering showers remain possible into the early evening, we’ll watch rain chances decrease after 8 p.m. The chance for rain still remains around 50%.
Sunday: NASCAR All-Star Race
1 p.m. — Gates Open
1:30 p.m. — Pre-Race concert featuring Warren Zeiders
- Skies will be partly cloudy in North Wilkesboro on race day but widely scattered showers still remain in the forecast with a 40% chance for rain in the early afternoon. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s.
5:10 p.m. — Driver Introductions (Open)
5:30 p.m. — NASCAR All-Star Open
- Widely scattered showers or storms will be possible around the start of the open with temperatures in the mid-70s. While the chance for rain remains around 40%, we’ll also see sunshine peeking through partly cloudy skies.
7:30 p.m. — Driver & Team Introductions (All-Star)
8 p.m. — NASCAR All-Star Race
- Some good news for racing fans is that rain chances look to drop significantly by Sunday evening, just in time for the All-Star Race. While a stray shower can’t be entirely ruled out, the chance for rain will be 20%. Temperatures will start in the low 70s but will fall through the 60s during the race.
