RIDGEWAY, Va. (WFXR) — A lot on the line Sunday afternoon at the Martinsville Speedway as 6 drivers are going for the last two spots in the Championship 4 next week in Phoenix. Practice took place on Saturday afternoon and during practice one of the playoff drivers in Denny Hamlin had a major issue. He had a wreck in turn 3 which forced a lot of damage to the rear of his car as the crew worked hard to fix the car. He will have to start from the back.

“Yeah, it is certainly a factor at this point. There is nothing you can do about it. You have to race from where the ball lies. So, we have to go out there and win,” said Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin.

Meanwhile Denny Hamlin’s teammate in Martin Truex, Junior he got the pole for Sunday’s race. he is excited about the opportunity as this is his last season of full-time racing.

“It is here whether you like it or not. It was exciting today. It is always fun. Anytime you win something in the series. You know it is exciting. Practice was awesome and fun and to get back up there during qualifying it felt pretty good. So, we can still go fast around here which is pretty good. We just need to figure out how to go fast on the long runs. We were a little bit off on that during practice. So, we need to find something that. So, it was a great start to the weekend,” said Joe Gibbs Racing driver Martin Truex, Junior.

So can Martin Truex, junior put the Martin in Martinsville and win another race here? Can Denny Hamlin overcome that major issue to come from the back of the field to clinch a playoff spot? Already in the playoffs of course is Joey Logano in the championship four. As well as Tyler Reddick who ironically is Denny Hamlin’s racer in on the 23XI team. Should be a big-time race as all of the action takes place on Martinsville Sunday afternoon with the green flag dropping at 2:00 pm eastern time.
