RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — As Richmond Raceway starts gearing up for the NASCAR weekend ahead, many are wondering if the clear weather will hold or if the rain will dampen the fun under the lights on Sunday night.
Friday is looking clear and mild for Friday night’s Virginia is for Racing Lovers race at 6:30 p.m. The temperature is expected to start in the low 60s as the race begins and hold in the high 50s by the time the checkered flag is waved.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series ToyotaCare 250 race is also expected to have beautiful warm weather with temperatures hovering in the low 70s around the 1:30 p.m. race time. There will also be less windy conditions than Friday with partly cloudy skies.
Finally, Sunday remains the big question mark for the big race under the lights beginning at 7 p.m. Temperatures are expected to drop from the mid-60s at the start of the race to the high-50s by the end. There is also a possibility for a shower or two later in the race. At this point, the rain is not expected to affect the race, however.
It takes between 45 minutes to 75 minutes to dry the racetrack when it rains. The Richmond Raceway is known to be a slick track for drivers with sometimes high levels of tire wear.
