PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN/WAVY) – Former Ohio State standout and Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has died after he was struck by a vehicle according to his agent.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news via social media.
Haskins’s agent says he was hit by a car in Southern Florida.
Haskins joined the Steelers as a free agent in 2021 and spent a season with Pittsburgh. Haskins was also a first-round draft pick by the then-Washington Football Team in 2019.
In his lone season as a starter at Ohio State, Haskins threw for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdown passes. For his career as a Buckeye, Haskins threw for 54 career touchdowns.
Haskins was just 24 years old.
Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin said he was devastated and at a loss for words following the passing of Haskins.
Washington Commanders Head Coach Ron Rivera said he is “absolutely heartbroken,” calling Haskins a talented young man who had a long life ahead of him.
Less than a week after Haskinks’d death, his wife released a statement on Twitter that read in part, “the overwhelming thoughts and prayers have been fuel for our emotional depletion.”
