NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Jackson Holliday’s time in Norfolk will be a short one.

The Baltimore Orioles are bringing baseball’s top prospect to the major leagues after just 28 games with the Triple-A Tides, according to reports from multiple outlets.

The 20-year-old Holliday, in 10 games this season in Triple-A with the Tides, batted .333 (14-for-24) with five doubles, two homers and nine RBI, walking 12 times while striking out eight times. In 18 games last season with the Tides, he batted .267 with four doubles, two homers and 9 RBI.

In his last game with the Tides Tuesday, he went 1-for-4 with a walk in a 5-2 loss to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

In 583 at-bats over 155 minor league games, Holliday has hit .321 with 15 homers and 93 RBI and has 29 stolen bases.

Holliday, the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2022 Major League Baseball draft, has been playing primarily at second base this season after playing shortstop for much of his minor league tenure.

Jordan Westburg, who has been playing second base for the Orioles, did not play in their win at Boston today, as manager Brandon Hyde opted for Taylor Kemp at second. Westburg is batting .194 and has a homer and five RBI in nine games. Last season in 68 games, Westburg hit .260 in 68 games with three homers and 23 RBI.

Holliday made his Norfolk Tides debut last September.

Orioles general manager Mike Elias had said in spring training that Holliday was close and “very ahead of schedule.”

This is a breaking news update.
