Crash on Coleman Bridge leaves one dead

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police and the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash on the Coleman Bridge Saturday morning.


A sedan traveling southbound on Route 17 struck a disabled pickup with a trailer that was partially in the right travel lane.

A passenger of the pickup had gotten out of the vehicle and was pinned between the trailer and the pickup truck by the impact of the collision. The passenger, 44-year-old Jose O. Salinas Estrada, died at the scene. The driver was not injured.

The driver of the sedan was taken to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The crash caused the bridge to close and motorist were rerouted through West Point. The bridge reopened around 1 p.m., according to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.
