Traffic shifts planned on First Colonial Rd. on Jan. 21

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Beginning as early as Jan. 21, motorists can expect shifts in traffic on First Colonial Road in Virginia Beach, in both directions.

It’s part of the Laskin Road Bridge Replacement and Widening Project.

On Sunday, Jan. 21, both southbound lanes on First Colonial Road will shift right onto the newly widened roadway from Republic Road to the vicinity of the I-264 overpass. This project is expected to last for several months alongside the Winwood Drive closure, which is expected to start on Jan. 22.

The following day, both northbound travel lanes on First Colonial Road will shift to the left onto the existing southbound roadway from the vicinity of the I-264 overpass to Republic Road.

These traffic shifts are necessary for crews to continue their work on the existing south and northbound lanes.

Motorist should obey the 35 mph speed limit while traveling through the work zone.
