PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – VDOT issued a traffic alert Tuesday about unscheduled road repairs on I-664, expected to impact the afternoon rush hour.
The work impacted drivers headed northbound from Suffolk to Newport News.
There was a double-lane closure of the left lanes of I-664 north near Chestnut Avenue in Newport News, which is exit 4.
VDOT issued the alert at 3:50 p.m.
Just after 5 p.m. VDOT confirmed its crews had completed the necessary repairs and reopened all lanes of I-664 north in Newport News.
10 On Your Side reached out to VDOT to inquire the reason behind the road work. They confirmed a portion of concrete at the bridge approach over Chestnut Avenue needed to be repaired to prevent possible damage to vehicles.
VDOT actually began the work at 9:50 a.m.
