VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — It’s strawberry time!
The Pungo Strawberry Festival kicks off its 36th year with carnival rides on Friday night before an opening ceremony and parade on Saturday morning.
The usually quiet and quaint area of Virginia Beach will be bustling all weekend long with thousands of people that are excited to experience the world of agriculture and family fun that Pungo has to offer.
“The Strawberry Festival really is a chance for us to show off what the agriculture industry does for the city of Virginia Beach,” says Todd Jones, chairman of the festival.
In addition to carnival rides, there will be vendors, live entertainment, activities, pie eating contests, pig races and lots food centered around the famous fruit.
“You’ve got strawberry jams, strawberry tacos, strawberry lemonade … I mean it’s all kinds of things,” says Roy Flanagan, a Virginia Beach farmer.
To get to the festival, you’ll need to type 1776 Princess Anne Road into your GPS.
Admission to the festival is free, but onsite parking costs $10 per vehicle. You’ll also have to purchase tickets for the carnival rides. Click here for a guide to parking at the festival.
