Yesterday was great! We had warm temps and lots of sunshine. We topped off in the low 80s over much of the region. I went out for a bike ride in the evening, and it was really comfortable. I love this time of year as it gets warm, but the humidity isn’t too high…yet. Pollen is a problem, but somehow it didn’t hit me that hard yesterday.
Today, we will have a cool front slipping south through the region. It will move through by the midday hours.
We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds, but the front may create some isolated rain showers this afternoon. Temperatures will warm up again into the upper 70s to low 80s. It will be warmer inland and south.
However, the temps may cool slightly this afternoon as the front steadily drops into North Carolina. Winds will become northerly around midday, and they may even turn to out of the northeast by the evening.
Tomorrow, the front will stall out to our south. We’ll be dry and mild with highs in the 70s. It will be very nice. There will be 80s to our south and 50s and 60s to our north.
On Friday, we’ll have more of a southerly wind developing. Highs temps will be in the 70s, but the humidity will increase quite a bit. Clouds will also increase through the day. Skies will become mostly cloudy. We’ll have an increasing chance for rain showers between the late morning and the afternoon.
There may also be some heavy showers developing later in the day. A north-south stacked area of low pressure will form to our west. There will be a potent upper level trough over the surface low as well. These features will move closer to us by Friday evening, and they will probably create some scattered thunderstorms along with the rain showers.
While I don’t think we’ll see a severe weather outbreak like the last system, I do think there will be some heavy rain and gusty winds this time. The models show that happening from Friday evening until shortly after midnight. The problem with that is that the Something in the Water festival will be kicking into high gear by Friday evening.
There are a lot of tents down there at the oceanfront, and many folks will be outdoors. There will also be a lot of people waiting in line at the movie theatres for the new Avengers movie. The timing may change, but there is an increasing chance for rain through that time. A few showers may linger into early Saturday morning, but then we’ll dry out for the rest of the day. Luckily confidence is also growing about a dry rest of the weekend. Stay tuned for updates!
