VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Trinity Church held a service at the Oceanfront Sunday to honor the 12 people killed in a shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center.
“We need to come together and be with each other as a community and walk through this together but the second message is one of hope that out of this devastation out of these ashes that faith can rise up,” said Trinity pastor, Randy Singer.
WAVY’s Aesia Toliver was at Oceanfront Sunday morning as hundreds of people gathered at Neptune’s Park for the service, which is one of several that is being held in the wake of Friday’s mass shooting.
Among the church goers were tourists and other community members coming together in grief and prayer.
“It was very emotional especially with what happened on Friday everything is very emotional it’s hard to keep it all in,” said worshiper, Leanna Staton.
Prayer teams and counselors were offered at the end of the service hoping to send a message of hope in the midst of heartbreak.
