Robert “Bobby” Williams, 72, worked as a Special Projects Coordinator for the City of Virginia Beach Public Utilities Department. He was employed by the city for 41 years and was a resident of Chesapeake.

In a statement released on Monday, Williams’ family said, “Our beloved husband, father and PopPop was a private man of few words. We feel the best way we can honor his memory would be for everyone to allow us to grieve our loss the same way.”

In a Facebook post, a colleague named Brent Werlein said that Williams was a wealth of “institutional knowledge.” The pair used to work together to solve problems in the city’s sanitary sewer system.

Werlein added that Williams was planning on retiring in 2019 so he could spend more time with family, according to the Facebook post.

City Deli, a restaurant located on Battlefield Boulevard in Chesapeake, wrote in a Facebook post that Williams brought his family in to eat every Saturday. They posted a picture of his favorite table and wrote that they would not be seating it on Monday in Williams’ memory.
