FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) – Someone is holding onto a lottery ticket worth a lot of money and may not even know it.

Virginia Lottery officials said a winning $150,000 Powerball ticket from the January 20 drawing remains unclaimed.

The clock is ticking. By law, winning tickets in Virginia expire 180 days after the drawing.

If the winner does not come forward with the ticket by 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024, the ticket will go from being worth $150,000 to nothing. Unclaimed prizes go to Virginia’s Literary Fund, which provides low-interest loans to localities for public school construction, renovations and technology upgrades.

The ticket was bought at the Park N Shop, located at 301 East 2nd Avenue in the city of Franklin.

The winning numbers for the January 20 drawing were 16-31-34-47-65, and the Powerball number was 10. This ticket matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball number. Normally, that would win $50,000. However, whoever bought the ticket spent an extra dollar for Power Play®, which tripled the prize to $150,000.

The Lottery has eight customer service centers across Virginia where the winning ticket can be redeemed. Click here for a list of locations.
