WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump will square off Thursday night in Atlanta for a 90-minute presidential debate.

Both campaigns say the two men have been spending the last week preparing for just about anything.

President Biden huddled with advisers at Camp David for the sixth straight day.

“His vision is simple: it is protecting freedoms, ensuring that everyone in this country has a fair shot and it is in stark contrast to Donald Trump’s vision,” said Biden-Harris 2024 advisor TJ Ducklo.

On Capitol Hill, Republican leaders spoke out in support of Trump.

“Joe Biden’s feckless failed and catastrophically weak record,” said Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.).

House Speaker Mike Johnson says the former president’s energy will be unmatched.

“It doesn’t matter if he drinks a whole gallon of energy drinks. He’s not going to be able to match the acumen and the readiness of Donald Trump,” said Johnson.

Democrats say Biden must stress among other issues his administration’s efforts to protect reproductive rights

“Donald Trump must own his devastating Supreme Court justices who have caused this pain,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.).

Wednesday President Biden picked up the endorsement of former GOP Congressman Adam Kinzinger who says democracy is at stake.

“And sometimes that means taking someone and endorsing something that you didn’t think you would endorse three years ago,” said Kinzinger.

Thursday’s debate will be the first of two. The other takes place in September.
