WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – While President Joe Biden is fighting to unite his fractured party behind his 2024 campaign former president Donald Trump expects him to remain in the race.
Both candidates called in to their favorite cable news shows on Monday to update supporters on the status of their campaigns.
“I am running,” said Biden.
President Biden continues to defend his re-election bid arguing he’s still the best Democrat to defeat former president Donald Trump.
“I beat him last time. I’ll beat him this time,” said Biden.
The president told MSNBC Monday his debate performance last month should not disqualify him from the campaign.
“It was a terrible night, and I really regret it happened,” Biden said.
On Fox News Monday Trump predicted President Biden will remain in the race.
“He’s got an ego, and he doesn’t want to quit,” said Trump.
Trump said he may delay his running mate announcement while Democrats continue to debate the president’s candidacy.
“This isn’t necessarily a very positive thing for our country,” said Trump.
A handful of House Democrats are publicly calling on President Biden to step aside but Senate Democrats are still united in their support.
Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal argues the president tells the truth while Trump lies.
“The contrast is absolutely crystal clear,” said Blumenthal.
Trump supporters in Congress, including Tennessee Congressman John Rose, accuse the White House of covering up President Biden’s condition.
“This is a constitutional crisis,” said Rose.
Biden will address the NATO Summit Washington, D.C., Tuesday while Trump will hold a campaign rally in Florida.
