WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Personal attacks and theatrics exploded at a House Oversight Committee hearing Thursday night.
It started after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) insulted Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), calling her eyelashes “fake.”
“I don’t think you know what you’re here for, I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.
This outraged Democrats. Greene agreed to strike the words from the record but did not apologize.
Crockett then made a parliamentary inquiry asking Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) if referring to a member as “a bleach blonde, bad built, butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”
Comer didn’t appear to understand the question while ranking member, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) appeared amused.
Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna told Crockett she was “out of control” and to “calm down”.
The comments were made during a markup to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for refusing to hand over the audio recording of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur.
The vote passed along party lines and now the full House will vote on holding the attorney general in contempt.
