WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump are traveling to Atlanta Thursday for the earliest presidential debate in history. It’s a critical moment in the campaign, a sitting and a former president facing off hoping to win the office each has held.

Both sides say many voters haven’t tuned in yet to the campaign but that changes tonight when polls show about 70% of Americans are expected to watch the debate, making this the biggest night of the campaign so far.

“Oh, I’ll be watching with popcorn,” said Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas.).

Trump supporters, including Texas Congressman Troy Nehls, are excited to hear about his second potential term in the White House.

“He’s the greatest thing since sliced bread,” said Nehls.

Fellow Texas Congressman Chip Roy says Trump should focus on the border, Middle East and the economy.

“President Trump knows what he wants to do and what he wants to deliver, and I’m not sure President Biden does,” said Roy.

Supporters of President Biden, including Texas Congressman Marc Veasey, are confident in their candidate.

“He’s gonna do great,” said Veasey.

Veasey says voters should trust another four years of President Biden’s policies.

“That can help steer us to an even brighter future than we already have right now,” he added.

Massachusetts Congresswoman Katherine Clark wants President Biden to focus on reproductive rights, especially since the debate comes just after the two-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision that ended the federal right to an abortion.

“Twenty-seven million American women now live under health care bans,” said Clark.

After the debate President Biden is off to North Carolina to campaign Friday, while Trump will rally with Governor Glenn Youngkin in Virginia.
