WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – On Capitol Hill, frustrations are boiling over within the Republican party.

Senators remain at odds over a pending deal on border security and additional aid to Ukraine.

“Each day we get a little closer,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).

While Democrats insist the Senate is on the verge of striking a deal to secure the southern border and extend aid to Ukraine, patience is waning among Republicans who are demanding details now.

Wednesday afternoon, Senate Republicans including Rick Scott of Florida and Mike Lee of Utah said they’re skeptical pending policy changes will reduce the surge of migrants at the southern border.

“From what I’m hearing, this could cause as many problems as it solves,” said Lee.

Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin calls it illogical.

“We’re told we’re going to fund sanctuary cities isn’t’ that stupid, I mean take care of illegal immigrants and that’s just going to cause more to come,” he said.

Even if a bill passes the Senate, they argue it’s dead on arrival in the House, since House Republicans are vowing to sink any deal that doesn’t include Trump-era immigration policies, but Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell warns blocking the package, which includes Ukraine aid, is a win for Russian president Vladimir Putin.

“It’s in our interest to help blunt aggressive behavior before it triggers wider conflict,” McConnell said.

This week the Pentagon confirms the U.S.  is out of money to help Ukraine.

The Biden administration is urging Congress to act quickly.
