WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – The presidential campaign is in full swing. With one week until the Democratic National Convention Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump are trying to draw sharp differences between their campaigns.

The Harris campaign wants to ride its momentum into the convention while the Trump campaign says this is only a honeymoon phase for Harris.

Former president Donald Trump returned to X, formerly known as Twitter, Monday posting, “Our economy is shattered. Our border has been erased. We’re a nation in decline.”

On ABC and CNN Sunday Trump’s running mate Senator JD Vance said Vice President Kamala Harris doesn’t have a plan for the next four years.

“She only speaks to voters behind a teleprompter. Everything is scripted. She doesn’t have her policy positions out there,” said Vance.

Vance also defended the controversial comments he made labeling women without biological children, including Harris herself, as “childless cat ladies” with “no direct stake” in America.

“I never criticize people for not having kids. I criticize people for being anti-child,” said Vance.

Harris argues Democrats are pro-child and their policies reflect that.

“I will proudly put my record against his every day of the week,” said Harris.

Harris promised voters Saturday her administration would deliver affordable childcare and healthcare and fix the country’s broken immigration system.

“Comprehensive reform that includes, yes, strong border security and an earned pathway to citizenship,” said Harris.

Harris’s running mate, Governor Tim Walz, will hold his first solo events this week while Trump plans to do a live interview Monday night with Elon Musk on X.
