WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — – It’s crunch time on the campaign trail with voters in some states already heading to the polls. The presidential candidates are targeting different voter groups this week as they continue to fight for votes.
On Friday, early voting kicked off in Virginia and Minnesota.
Vice President Kamala Harris made a campaign trip to Georgia to highlight the issue of abortion rights.
“It should not be the government or Donald Trump telling her what to do with her body.” Harris said.
Her visit comes on the heels of a ProPublica story about two Georgia women who died after not being able to get proper medical treatment for complications from taking abortion pills.
The report says one of those women was Amber Thurman, whose mother Shanette Williams shared her heartbreaking story at a Harris campaign event on Thursday night.
“You’re looking at a mother that is broken,” Williams said. “Amber was not a statistic. She was loved.”
Williams spoke through tears as she explained why she decided to speak publicly about Amber’s death.
“People around the world need to know that this was preventable,” Williams said.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump made an appeal to Jewish voters this week. On Thursday night he spoke at the Israeli-American Council National Summit in Washington, D.C.
“Anybody who’s Jewish and loves being Jewish and loves Israel is a fool if they vote for a Democrat,” Trump said.
The former president told voters he believes U.S. ally Israel faces total annihilation if he’s not elected president, and he attacked Vice President Harris’ foreign policy approach.
“We have leaders that are grossly incompetent. They have no idea what’s happening,” said Trump.
Trump is scheduled to hold a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina Saturday.
