WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – House Republicans are racing to slap Iran with additional sanctions following its unprecedented attack against Israel.

Michigan Congressman Bill Huizenga says he wants to cut off all money flowing from the U.S. and the World Bank into Iran.

“Frankly I think they’ve demonstrated that they’re using to for nefarious purposes,” says Huizenga.

His “No U.S. Financing to Iran Act” is among a series of bills being rushed to the House floor for a vote this week.

Huizenga expects it to pass with sweeping bipartisan support.

Illinois Democratic Congressman Brad Schneider who recently visited Israel calls more sanctions a no brainer, but he also argues getting military aid to Israel is just as important.

“It’s estimated that the defense of one night of attack on Saturday night was upwards of a billion dollars,” Rep. Schneider said.

The White House and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell are calling on House Republicans to stop blocking a multi-billion dollar aid package that includes money for Israel.

“Anyone taking the challenges we face seriously knows that these unmet needs are absolutely urgent,” said McConnell.

Iowa Republican Congresswoman Mariannette Jane Miller-Meeks argues it’s the Senate that needs to act. She says House Republicans have passed two bills to send aid directly to Israel.

The White House is refusing to take up standalone Israel aid bill.

Following an emergency call with G-7 leaders the administration says it, too, is considering new sanctions against Iran,
