WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House Thursday.

These separate meetings followed Netanyahu’s fiery address to Congress Wednesday that brought thousands of protesters to the U.S. Capitol over the Israel-Hamas war.

“Well, welcome back, Mr. Prime Minister,” said President Biden in the Oval Office. “We’ve got a lot to talk about.”

“I look forward to discussing with you today and working with you in the months ahead on the great issues before us,” Netanyahu said.

President Biden is ramping up the pressure on Netanyahu to accept his administration’s framework for a ceasefire deal. It calls for an initial six-week ceasefire, the release of all hostages and a surge of humanitarian assistance into Gaza.

“We are closer now, we believe, than we’ve been before,” said National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby.

Families of Americans held hostage by Hamas met with President Biden and Netanyahu at the White House to help secure a deal.

“The moment they come home, these 115, the killing ends, the madness ends,” one of the family members said after the meeting.

Netanyahu notably did not lay out ceasefire plans during his address to Congress.

Crews spent Thursday cleaning up near the U.S. Capitol after thousands of protesters filled the streets to condemn Netanyahu and advocate for Palestinians. Police arrested about two dozen of them.

“You have officially become Iran’s useful idiots,” Netanyahu said during his speech.

On Thursday, the House’s top Democrat, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, (D-N.Y.), denounced the unlawful activity, including vandalizing public property and burning American flags.

“Anyone who engages in that activity should be held accountable to the full extent of the law,” Jeffries said. “Not that complicated.”

Netanyahu will end his trip with a visit to Mar-A-Lago Friday to meet with former president Donald Trump.

Trump’s vice president on his ticket, Sen. J.D. Vance, (R-Ohio.), missed Netanyahu’s speech and will not meet with him.
