WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris honored veterans during a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on Monday.
The Veterans Day ceremony was the first time the president and vice president have been seen together since the election.
Following the ceremony, President Biden delivered remarks from the Memorial Amphitheater where he paid tribute to veterans and their families.
“We have many obligations, but only one truly sacred obligation. Sacred. Prepare those we send into harm’s way and to care for them and their families when they return home, and when they don’t,” Biden said.
Monday’s ceremony marked the last time President Biden will participate in Veterans Day ceremonies in Arlington as Commander-in-Chief.
“It’s been the greatest honor of my life to lead you, to serve you, to care for you, to defend you. Just as you defended us generation after generation after generation,” he said.
Biden also touted his work to help veterans and their families during his time in office, citing the PACT Act. The legislation expands VA health care and benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxins, as well as their survivors.
“Today, I am proud to announce that the VA will expand the number of cancers covered under the PACT Act,” Biden said.
Biden concluded his speech by urging Americans to continue to honor the men and women who serve.
“The world is dependent on each of you and all of us, all of you, to keep honoring the women and the men and the families who have borne the battle, to keep protecting everything they fought for,” Biden said.
