WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — The two remaining Republican presidential candidates have their sights set on South Carolina as they count down to this weekend’s primary contest.
The South Carolina Republican primary is Saturday, Feb. 24, and rivals Donald Trump and Nikki Haley are on the attack out on the campaign trail.
“Nikki Haley. Have you ever heard of her? You don’t hear her name too much anymore,” Trump said.
“Everything he touches we lose,” Haley said.
At a campaign event in Michigan, Trump touted his commanding lead over Haley in the latest polls.
“We’re doing great. We’re up about 30 or 35 points,” Trump said.
As the former governor of South Carolina, Haley is hoping the primary in her home state gives her a boost. She told voters at a rally there that the race isn’t over yet.
“Let’s get out and vote,” Haley said. “We don’t anoint kings in America. We vote and South Carolinians deserve the right to vote.”
Both candidates are trying to win over Republican voters by making the case that they have the best chance of beating President Joe Biden in November’s general election.
“We’re leading Biden by so much. We’re beating him by so much,” Trump said.
“Seventy percent of Americans have said they don’t want to see Trump and Biden in a rematch,” Haley said.
“Don’t complain about what happens in a general election if you don’t vote in this primary,” Haley continued.
“If you want to save America then you must vote,” Trump said.
