WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Former President Donald Trump sat down for a discussion at the annual meeting of the National Association of Black Journalists, and he used the moment to go after his opponent’s race.

“She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” Trump said about Vice President Kamala Harris. “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black. And now she wants to be known as Black.”

Just hours later, while addressing a historically Black sorority in Texas, Vice President Harris responded.

“It was the same old show, the divisiveness and the disrespect,” Harris said. “And let me just say, the American people deserve better.”

And she emphasized unity, saying, “our differences do not divide us. They are an essential source of our strength.”

But on the campaign trail in Arizona, Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) doubled down on the Trump team attacks.

“Kamala Harris is a phony who caters to whatever audience is in front of her,” Vance said.

The candidates are also drawing sharp contrasts on their positions, with Vice President Harris calling the Trump agenda extreme.

“America has tried these failed policies before and we are not going back,” she said.

But former President Trump argues his record is better than his rival’s.

“Well, Kamala, let’s go,” Trump said. “Challenge accepted. Are you ready? Let’s compare our record.”

With less than 100 days until the election, each candidate is laying out a very different vision.

“We, in this room, are fighting for the future,” Harris stressed. Meanwhile, Trump warned, “if she becomes your president, our country is finished.”

Thursday, the Democratic National Committee begins its virtual roll call vote, where delegates are expected to officially choose Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential nominee.
