Low pressure is sliding off the SE coast and an upper disturbance is sliding across the Southern States. These features combined will lead to the chance for showers across the Tidewater area today.
The showers will be in the form of snow for NE NC (inland areas), and a wintry mix is possible for the Southside of SE VA.
The potential for wintry weather will last through early afternoon. Howevcer, don’t expect much in the way of accumulations…
…at best, there could be a 1/2 inch for *INLAND* NE NC (see graphic below). No accumulations are expected for Hampton Roads nor the OBX.
This system will move away by later this afternoon, and the winds will turn gusty. Winds of 10-20mph are expect by this evening…lasting thru tomorrow. Did I mention even COLDER air will also be moving in as today’s weather system moves away.
So, the breezy conditions PLUS the colder air will lead to some frigid WIND CHILL values. Wind chills will drop into the teens by later this evening.
Then, by Thursday morning…wind chill values will be in the low teens and possibly single digits! Make sure to dress warmly…especially if you will have to spend extended time outdoors on Thursday.
Afternoon Highs will not even reach the freezing mark on Thursday, and wind chills will stay in the teens for the afternoon. So, COLDER air is here to stay as we wrap up 2017.
We won’t have temps near average until after the New Year slides in. So, if you like the cold…this is a special package for you!
Enjoy the day!
