This was the view yesterday during the afternoon.

We have lots of rain showers in the region.  Some of it was heavy at times.  Some locations picked up about a half inch to an inch.  I had a weather watcher in the Strawbridge part of Virginia Beach say that they had about 2″. Yet some other locations only had a trace of rain (like Norfolk International Airport).  We’ll see a lot of this again today.  The deep moisture is fully entrenched over the area.  Dew points are near 70.  We’ll have more southerly winds again today.  Also, there is a stationary front just to our north.

Regional Weather Map

That boundary helped to create some flooding in Maryland Wednesday.  The front is a little closer to us today, but it isn’t right on top of us.  There wasn’t much rain this morning, but the models advertise the rain showers increasing through the afternoon.

Just like yesterday we’ll have some pockets of heavy rain this afternoon/evening.  Amounts will vary widely.  We’ll have lots of clouds.  Winds will be out of the south/southwest at 5-10mph.  High temps will be in the upper 70s to low 80s.  It will be very muggy, and you’ll notice that more when the breeze stops.

We’ll have the same type of weather tomorrow and Saturday. The front will drift north through that time, and may even fall apart.  However, the deep moisture will stick around.  By Sunday some drier weather will move in from the west.  This should give us more sunshine and less rain chances.  High temps will pop up too to the mid 80s.  We’ll have the same for Monday.

There are a lot of big events happening in the region between today and the weekend.  The Greek Festival in Norfolk starts today.  Luckily they have a big tent.  The LPGA is also happening in Williamsburg.  Air Power over Hampton Roads, Chesapeake Jubilee, and the Beer Festival are happening soon.  Luckily it won’t rain the entire time for these events.  Stay tuned for updates.
